Friday Update from GRD

Friday 11:15AM

The predicted rain really was not a factor at opening night of the GRD Concert Series, featuring The Last Ride and Jake McVey on The Family Credit Union Main Stage. Hot and sticky, with plenty of humidity did affect the attendance, but for those who braved the weather, they saw two of the best country music acts in the Midwest perform.

The GRD queens were crowned between shows, with Carissa Johnson as the Jr. GRD Queen and Courtney Martin reigning as the new Sr. GRD Queen. These two girls then judged the “Taco Johns super-hot taco eating contest”. The overall winner was Brad Berry, with Chris Twigg taking second and Jesse Martinez in third place.

Tonight’s activities start at 5:30PM, with carnival gates, ABATE motorcycle show and GRD concert series open for admission. Tonight features the biggest homegrown music concert in the region, the Q106.5 “Battle of the Bands” at 7PM. The audience in attendance tonight will cast ballots to determine the winners in this $3000 purse performance. One-night tickets are available at the gate for only $10, with kids under 12 free with paid adult.

River level forecast
There has been much speculation as to the rising river levels and whether or not GRD will be affected. This morning, GRD officials met with City Staff on this topic. According to the most current river flood forecasts, GRD will NOT be affected by flooding during the event.

Muscatine Journal correction
In Friday’s Journal, the starting time for tonight’s concert was incorrect. The Journal will print a correction on their website today. The Journal regrets the error. Please refer to GreatRiverDays.com for firsthand information.
