GRD “Battle of the Bands” to conclude August 20

While rain may have forced an early retreat from the Great River Days “Battle of the Bands”, event organizers, with overwhelming support from the public, has scheduled a repeat concert engagement of the five best bands in the region, as chosen by the fans.

With the assistance of Larry and Leanna Richardson, owners of Pla-Mor Lanes bowling center, the BOB event will be held at their spacious facility, located at 1411 Grandview Ave. in Muscatine. All five bands have confirmed to play, with the audience in attendance that evening choosing the winners through ballots. In addition, both 97X and Rock 104.9 will sponsor the event to be hosted again by 97X radio personality Steve Donovan.

While the location is different, the same support for homegrown musical talent remains the same. “These are the best bands out there” commented JJ Koehler. “All of these groups worked hard to get to the final five, and they unanimously chose to reschedule the concert. There is no question that these musicians want to show what they have, and they all bent some strings to make the new date and location work” he concluded.

While there were many possible locations offered for the event by local business owners, the decision was made to best emulate the original theme for the outdoor “Battle of the Bands” concert. “Pla-Mor has a large parking area, great visibility, and can host an all ages event such as this”  said Leanna Richardson. The facility regularly hosts professional touring music acts, and offers indoor diversions and activities for those attending the concert. “We are pleased to be a part of this event, and want to help these great bands as much as we can” she added.

Admission to the concert will be at half-price, even though all the bands will perform that evening. Adult cover is $5, with kids under 12 free. The concert will start at 7PM on Friday, August 20. Free parking is available on-site, and outdoor food and beverages will be served.
