Relocated GRD opens to strong attendanceConcert series starts tonight with Crusin’ and XL’sDue to flooding on the Muscatine Riverfront, the 52nd annual Great River Days festival had to be relocated at the last minute to the campus of Muscatine Community College, 152 Colorado Street in Muscatine. But by the attendance numbers at last night’s Carnival wristband night, making the move did not seem to have an adverse affect. “Parking was a concern we had” said Kerry Keller, event co-chairman, “but it went very smoothly. With the mall parking lot only a block away from the campus, it was probably closer than what we had downtown on the riverfront.” Also starting tonight, Muscabus will run 2 shuttle busses between the Mall and MCC to aid in getting concert-goers to the show. “Shuttle busses will run for the rest of the event between the Mall and MCC” he concluded. Thursday evening, the GRD concert series kicks off with Iowa Rock and Roll Hall-of-Fame bands “Crusin” and the “XL’s” at 7PM. “We are ready to go” said JJ Koehler, co-chairman. “The new venue layout is great, and we brought in portable hi-rise bleachers for those who don’t bring lawn chairs.” Adult beverages will be served in the concert area. Tickets are available at the gate starting at 5:30PM. Adult admission is $10, with kids under 12 free with a paid adult. “The XL’s are have all arrived, and the weather will be perfect for tonight,” he concluded.
